Splitwise alternatives compared

As of June 2026

Sharli is a free Splitwise alternative for Android: usable without an account, offline-ready and GDPR-compliant with data stored in the EU. No paywall, no daily limits, no ads.

On this page we compare five apps for splitting group expenses: Sharli, Splitwise, Tricount, Settle Up and Splid. Sharli is our own app – but we name the strengths of the others honestly. All information comes from publicly available sources (as of June 2026).

Why look for a Splitwise alternative?

Splitwise is the best-known app for splitting group expenses – and for many it was the default for years. In the free version, however, the number of expenses you can add per day is limited, and ads are shown. Unlimited entries and ad-free use require Splitwise Pro, priced at $4.99 per month in the US (as of June 2026, per splitwise.com).

On top of that, Splitwise requires an account, and whether data is stored in the EU is not publicly confirmed. If you want to split expenses for free, without signing up, or with data stored in the EU, there are now several alternatives.

The alternatives in detail

Transparency: Sharli is our own app. If anything here looks outdated, email us at info@sharli.app and we will correct it.

Sharli

Sharli is completely free – no limits, no ads, no subscription. You don't need an account, you can add expenses offline and mix multiple currencies; conversion is automatic and free. Data is stored GDPR-compliant in a data centre in the EU (Ireland). For now, Sharli is Android-only.

Best for: Small groups that want to split expenses without signing up and completely free – on Android devices.

Splitwise

Splitwise is the best-known app in this category and runs on Android, iOS and the web. The feature set is large, and many groups have used it for years. The free version limits entries per day and shows ads; automatic currency conversion is part of Splitwise Pro (as of June 2026).

Best for: Groups that want the most widely used app and can live with the limits – or are happy to subscribe to Pro.

Tricount

Tricount belongs to bunq and is completely free – the former premium tier was discontinued. The app runs on Android, iOS and the web and converts currencies automatically. According to its help centre, an account is required to create a tricount; the app works offline and syncs when online.

Best for: Mixed groups (iOS, Android, web) looking for a free app with a large user base.

Settle Up

Settle Up shines with flexible splitting: by shares, percentages or fixed amounts. Groups can be shared via link so others can follow along in the browser. The free version shows ads, and some features sit behind a premium subscription. A login is required to start, and groups are created online.

Best for: Groups with complicated splits that need a web view.

Splid

Splid works without an account and also offline, with over 150 currencies including conversion. Instead of a subscription there is a one-time purchase: one active group is free, unlimited groups and Excel export cost a one-off fee (as of June 2026). Available for Android and iOS.

Best for: Single trips or occasions – without an account and without a subscription.
